MEET THE SECRETARIAT

RYAN LIU
Secretary General
As the Secretary General of NHSMUN, Ryan is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Secretariat and conference staff. On conference day, you can find Ryan in the crisis backroom or checking in on committees.

“I joined Model UN in my freshman year to improve my public speaking, but I’ve come to realize that MUN is so much more. From late-night philosophical debates at travel conferences to helping new delegates write their first position paper, MUN has become like a family to me -- one that cultivates critical thinking, empathy, and personal growth. This conference is three years in the making, and I am honored to close my high-school MUN career leading such a passionate and intelligent secretariat.”
BIAN LEE
Comptroller General
As the NHSMUN treasurer, Bian is responsible for managing all finances. On conference day, he will be the head chair of the GA Russo-Ukraine Conflict committee.

“I’ve only been part of MUN for 2 years, but despite having joined late my experience within the club has been one of the most impactful of all my high school involvements. MUN has given me a unique opportunity to research and debate topics of international affairs that helped me expand my knowledge, and build skills in developing arguments.”

IAN LEE
Director General
As the Director General, Ian is responsible for providing support in logistics, communications, and club finance.

“After I joined MUN in my freshmen year, I soon realized the folly of my initial expectations-- MUN was not a guaranteed path to improving public speaking, time management, or research skills. Though I don't doubt my improvement in these areas overtime, what I can most vividly attest to from my experience in MUN are the warm friendships, the proud and embarrassing memories, the charming and strange conversations, and a developing sense of a community. More than any award, I feel that these breadths of experience guided by the comfort of new friendships have contributed to my growth through MUN. It would be my greatest honor if through this conference, you are able to make many more of these cherishable memories.
Kenneth Rhee
Under Secretary General of Publicity
As the club publicist, Kenneth creates graphics for all purposes and takes care of other necessary publicizing responsibilities for the club.

“Hey my name is Kenneth and I’m looking forward to being one of your vice chairs this year. I joined MUN in my sophomore year in order to be more aware of international affairs as well as to meet new people and I’ve found MUN to be a great and rewarding experience so far. My favorite part of MUN has definitely been all the new friendships I’ve made, and the memories that come through meetings and conferences. I look forward to seeing you all soon and hope you have a great time!”

Rahul Khanna
Under Secretary General of Outreach
As the Under Secretary General of Outreach, Rahul helps reach out to other high schools’ MUN clubs to invite delegates for conferences like NHSMUN. He also helps with general advertisement of the club.

“I planned to join Northwood’s MUN club in freshman year after hearing about other people’s positive experiences with it, but put it off until sophomore year. This is one of my main regrets - joining MUN has allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of countless international issues, both present and past, while practicing my public speaking skills. It’s also provided a great, diverse community of friends who share this interest. I’m excited to use my experience as a delegate these past three years in helping chair this committee."
Annabel Tiong
Secretary
As club secretary, Annabel helps run all housekeeping and administrative business, including keeping track of logistics during meetings and recording board planning processes.

“Hi! I’m Annabel, and I’m looking forward to being one of your Head Chairs for this conference. This is my 3rd year in MUN, after starting out with absolutely zero knowledge on global affairs. I feel that I’ve grown immensely as both a delegate and a person through leadership and conferences, and I truly believe the level of thought, discussion, and awareness about our world that MUN stimulates is invaluable."

Rutvij Holay
Local Conference Coordinator
As local conference coordinator, Rutvij is responsible for planning and registering Northwood for any local (non-collegiate) conferences.

“I joined Model United Nations in 7th grade, back when Northwood had a middle school program, mainly because I wanted some speaking activity to do back then. Since then, however, I’ve realized that MUN isn’t just an activity for speakers - due to the variety of topics, ranging from international conflicts to cryptocurrency, as long as you have an interest in something, you will be able to grow that interest through MUN. This is especially true for Crisis, what you may be able to call my specialty, where some of the best delegates are much better at covert action then they are at speaking. Thus, no matter why you are here, I’m certain that you will be able to gain something from this conference, and from MUN in general, and I look forward to meeting you very soon!"
Mia Lee
Travel Conference Coordinator
As NHSMUN’s Travel Conference Coordinator, Mia is responsible for keeping tabs on national MUN conferences and registration for these events.

“Hello, my name is Mia, and I’m so excited to be your travel conference coordinator for this year. Although the pandemic may have taken the “travel” out of these experiences, I am committed to ensuring equally fun and engaging debate for NHSMUN members. Going into my 6th year of MUN, I can honestly say that it is such an amazing activity to be a part of… so congratulations! — you made the right choice. Feel free to reach out with any questions, and I’m looking forward to an awesome year.
