Women's involvement in politics creates more democratic governments, more diverse perspectives and global priorities, and increases consideration for women's issues in the international agenda. Despite the necessity for women's representation in political, decision-making positions, there has been a historical underrepresentation of women in politics at a local and global level. In some parts of the world, there is a multitude of institutional, historical, socio-economic, and cultural obstacles that restrict women from even the most basic political participation: voting. Although there has been much progress in creating greater access for women to the political world, there is still much to be done. Delegates will be challenged to analyze the causes of women's underrepresentation in politics that are deeply rooted in our societies.
